Richard G. Shrubb was appointed today as president of Minnesota West Community and Technical College by the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities Board of Trustees.
Shrubb, 49, is vice president of academic and student affairs at Terra State Community College in Ohio. Previously, Shrubb served as dean of general education and director of the Clinton County campus at Southern State Community College in Ohio; associate professor, program director of technical communication and assessment coordinator at the Milwaukee School of Engineering; and English faculty member at Pearl River Community College in Mississippi. He also served in the U.S. Army as an intelligence specialist.
Chancellor James H. McCormick said: "Dr. Shrubb is an outstanding fit for Minnesota West Community and Technical College. He will be a strong addition to the leadership team of our colleges and universities and will bring new perspectives and fresh insights from his experience in other states."
Shrubb holds a doctorate in educational leadership and supervision of instruction from the University of Southern Mississippi; a master's degree in business administration from William Carey College in Mississippi; a master's degree in English from Southeastern Louisiana University; and a bachelor's degree in English from Lee University in Tennessee.
Board Chair David Olson said: "We believe Dr. Shrubb offers important experience and skills, particularly when it comes to fostering continuous improvement of the college's programs and services. As global competition intensifies, we look to our presidents to be innovative, sometimes with fewer resources, because we must produce the workforce that Minnesota needs in the coming decades."
In accepting the appointment, Shrubb said: "This is a dream job and an honor. I am stepping into a wonderful situation and am eager to begin working with the five campuses and the surrounding communities."
Shrubb's appointment becomes effective July 1. He will replace Ronald Wood, who is retiring. Minnesota West has campuses in Canby, Granite Falls, Jackson, Pipestone and Worthington, serving more than 4,400 students in credit courses annually and providing a variety of educational programs and delivery options. The presidential search advisory committee was headed by Northland Community and Technical College President Anne Temte.
