Maryan G. McCormick, wife of James H. McCormick, chancellor of the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities system, has received a "Spousal Tribute" from the American Association of State Colleges and Universities during its annual convention in Williamsburg, Va.
Maryan McCormick, who holds a doctorate in educational administration, and the chancellor have been married 45 years. They have two sons and six grandchildren. "For many, it has been Maryan who brought patience, intelligence and genuine human kindness to our work together, and she has done so successfully at four wonderful places," the chancellor said. Before becoming chancellor of the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities in 2001, he served as chancellor of the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education, president of Bloomsburg State University and a vice president and professor at Shippensburg University of Pennsylvania.
The award is given annually in recognition of the contribution that spouses make to higher education.
Minnesota's 31 state community and technical colleges, and universities serve more than 420,000 students across the state.
