Minnesota State Colleges and Universities Chancellor James H. McCormick said today he will recommend that the Board of Trustees appoint Richard Shrubb as president of Minnesota West Community and Technical College.

Shrubb, 49, is vice president of academic and student affairs at Terra State Community College in Ohio. Shrubb was one of three finalists recommended to the chancellor by a search committee chaired by Anne Temte, president of Northland Community and Technical College.

The chancellor's recommendation will be considered by the Board of Trustees at its regular meeting March 19.

"Dr. Shrubb has a solid background in technical education and liberal arts that should prove to be ideal at Minnesota West," said Chancellor James H. McCormick. "Under his leadership, I believe the college will continue to provide strong academic programs and remain a dynamic force in the economic development of this area."

Before his position at Terra State Community College, Shrubb served as dean of general education and director of the Clinton County campus at Southern State Community College in Ohio; associate professor, program director of technical communication and assessment coordinator at the Milwaukee School of Engineering; and an English faculty member at Pearl River Community College in Mississippi. He also served in the U.S. Army as an intelligence specialist. Shrubb holds a doctorate in educational leadership and supervision of instruction from the University of Southern Mississippi; a master's degree in business administration from William Carey College in Mississippi; a master's degree in English from Southeastern Louisiana University; and a bachelor's degree in English from Lee University in Tennessee.

The new president will replace Ronald Wood, who is retiring. Minnesota West has campuses in Canby, Granite Falls, Jackson, Pipestone and Worthington, serving more than 4,400 students in credit courses annually and providing a variety of educational programs and delivery options.

The Minnesota State Colleges and Universities system comprises 32 state universities, community colleges, technical colleges and combined community and technical colleges located on 53 campuses across the state. The system serves approximately 242,000 students annually in credit-based courses and another 140,000 in non-credit courses.
