MnSCU appoints associate vice chancellor for labor relations

The Minnesota State Colleges and Universities has appointed Mary E. Leary as associate vice chancellor for labor relations.

Leary, who has been director of the Office of Labor Relations and Collective Bargaining for the District of Columbia, is an attorney with extensive experience working with private employers, governmental agencies, labor unions and professional associations.

"We're delighted that Ms. Leary, one of our state university graduates, has accepted the position," said William Tschida, vice chancellor for human resources. "Her experience will serve the system well. We're also certain she will continue to build upon the excellent relationships with our collective bargaining units. "

Before working for the District of Columbia, she was an attorney-advisor for the Merit Systems Protection Board and an attorney for National Labor Relations Board. She also worked for the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, the United Electrical, Radio and Machine Workers of America and as a labor arbitrator in U. S. Postal Service cases.

Leary has a bachelor's degree in psychology from Southwest Minnesota State University, formerly known as Southwest State University, in Marshall, and a law degree from Howard University School of Law in Washington, D. C. She began her duties Mar. 1.


Minnesota's 31 state community and technical colleges, and universities serve more than 430,000 students across the state.
