Kenneth E. Behringer has been named executive director of the Minnesota
Library Information Network, effective July 3, 2000. Behringer has been
director of the Great River Regional Library in St. Cloud since 1989.
Prior to that position, he served as the library development consultant
for the North Dakota State Library in Bismarck, North Dakota.
"Ken Behringer's management experience, contract negotiation skills and
familiarity with the Library Planning Task Force's vision will be essential
to achieve a successful MnLINK statewide library network," said William
DeJohn, director of MINITEX Library Information Network. Following a national
search, finalists for the executive director position were chosen by a
search committee chaired by Manuel Lopez, associate vice chancellor for
academic programs, Minnesota State Colleges and Universities.
In his new position, Behringer will serve as chief executive officer
of the Minnesota Library Information Network, an integrated system that
serves libraries of MnSCU, the University of Minnesota, state government
and other libraries.
The Minnesota State Colleges and Universities system is made up of 36
state universities, community and technical colleges. The system serves
approximately 230,000 students a year with a fall 1998 enrollment of about
147,000.
