Chancellor Morris J. Anderson of the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities system has appointed Janet Gullickson interim president of the Laurentian District, which consists of Mesabi Range Community and Technical College, with campuses in Eveleth and Virginia, and Vermilion Community College in Ely. She replaces President Jon Harris, who has retired. The appointment is effective Thursday.
Gullickson is a partner in the Odyssey Group, a management consultant firm located in St. Cloud. She also is an assistant professor at St. Mary's University of Minnesota for the master of education program. Gullickson has served as a vice president for academic affairs at both Hennepin Technical College (1997 to 1998) and St. Cloud Technical College (1990 to 1996).
Gullickson has a doctorate in education policy and administration from the University of Minnesota, a master of science in sociology and planning from South Dakota State University and a bachelor of science in psychology and sociology from the University of South Dakota.
The MnSCU Board of Trustees is currently considering a plan to form a Range Higher Education District that would include the Laurentian institutions and Itasca Community College.
The Minnesota State Colleges and Universities system is made up of 36 state universities, community and technical colleges and a campus in Japan. The system serves approximately 230,000 students a year with a fall 1998 enrollment of about 140,000.
