September 15, 1997 - MnSCU BOARD TO ELECT NEW CHAIR - Chancellor to recommend senior vice chancellor for academic-student affairs, provost for University Center Rochester

Trustees of the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities will hold the annual meeting of the board on Wednesday, Sept. 17 and elect a new chair. Current chair William Ulland, Duluth, is stepping down, and Michael Vekich of St. Louis Park is standing for election.
Vekich, who has been a member of the board since 1996, is a product of public higher education. He holds an A.A. degree from Hibbing Junior College, now Hibbing Community College, and a bachelor's degree in accounting and business administration from the University of Minnesota-Duluth. Vekich is the owner and chief executive officer of Vekich Arkema, a management and financial advisory firm.
MnSCU Chancellor Morris Anderson will recommend to the Board of Trustees two senior appointments:
- Linda Baer, currently senior vice president for academic and student affairs at Bemidji State University, as MnSCU senior vice chancellor for academic and student affairs.
- Dale Bower, vice president for academic affairs at the State University of New York College of Technology in Canton, N.Y., as the first provost of the University Center Rochester.
