September 15, 1997 - MnSCU BOARD TO ELECT NEW CHAIR - Chancellor to recommend senior vice chancellor for academic-student affairs, provost for University Center Rochester

Trustees of the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities will hold the annual meeting of the board on Wednesday, Sept. 17 and elect a new chair. Current chair William Ulland, Duluth, is stepping down, and Michael Vekich of St. Louis Park is standing for election.

Vekich, who has been a member of the board since 1996, is a product of public higher education. He holds an A.A. degree from Hibbing Junior College, now Hibbing Community College, and a bachelor's degree in accounting and business administration from the University of Minnesota-Duluth. Vekich is the owner and chief executive officer of Vekich Arkema, a management and financial advisory firm.

MnSCU Chancellor Morris Anderson will recommend to the Board of Trustees two senior appointments:

Linda Baer, currently senior vice president for academic and student affairs at Bemidji State University, as MnSCU senior vice chancellor for academic and student affairs.
Dale Bower, vice president for academic affairs at the State University of New York College of Technology in Canton, N.Y., as the first provost of the University Center Rochester.
