Jane Ferguson Otis has become the interim communications director for the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities (MnSCU), replacing Jack Rhodes, who will take a position with the Ramsey County Attorney's Office.

Otis has been a communications consultant in the Twin Cities for more than 20 years. She is responsible for MnSCU public relations and media relations and for coordination with campus communicators at the 36 MnSCU colleges and universities. Permanent appointments in the public affairs area await staffing decisions by Chancellor-designate Morrie Anderson.

Otis was executive vice president and creative director of The Rowland Company (1990-1994), founder and principal of Evergreen Learning Research (1986-1989) and vice president of Padilla and Speer Public Relations, now Padilla Speer Beardsley, (1976-1986). Her first position in Minneapolis was press secretary for the Mayor of Minneapolis (1974 and 1975). She has a master's degree in English from the University of Michigan.

Otis has consulted with MnSCU since January 1997 and was asked to take an appointment with the Public Affairs Division through January 1998. She is a community faculty member at Metropolitan State University in the MBA program.
