INDIVIDUAL PROJECTS
University Center Rochester technology center: $9.7 million
Renovate existing space at the University Center into a regional technology
and media center serving students, training faculty, and supporting K-12
schools and businesses in southeastern Minnesota.
Mankato State University student athletics facility: $11.0 million
Renovate and restore the indoor and outdoor student athletic facilities
including Blakeslee Stadium; bring facilities into compliance with NCAA
intercollegiate regulations.
Mankato Community Technology Center: $7.7 million
Construct a multi-use facility to be used by local businesses, higher
education and other agencies as a technology incubator, a computer technology
park and home to the institute for Wireless Education.
St. Paul Technical College remodeling and new construction: $10.0
million
Remodel the library, the chemical technology lab and building equipment
automation system, address inadequacies cited by the college's accrediting
agency.
Hibbing Community and Technical College new college center: $16.0
million
Construct a new facility to house programs offered in two existing buildings,
one of which has serious structural deficiencies.
Inver Hills Community College new instructional building: $12.0
million
Build new chemistry and biology laboratories, space for Emergency Health
Service program, interactive television classroom, general classrooms
and conference rooms.
Ridgewater College (Hutchinson campus) library, child care center
and labs: $7.6 million
Develop library, child care center and new testing labs that will allow
students to use x-ray, magnetic particle and liquid penetrants to test
equipment and materials.
Winona and St. Cloud State Universities major land acquisitions:
$5.0 million
Purchase adjacent property for development.
Northland Community and Technical College (Thief River Falls):
$4.0 million
Connect two formerly separate institutions that have merged, and create
a learning center.
Pine Technical College rennovation: $1.7 million
Renovate several labs, move the machine shop, create a technology center,
merge several programs and relocate them to create a regional economic
development center on site.
Red Wing/Winona Technical college truck driving training facility:
$1.5 million
Construct new facility to resolve air pollution problems in a leased facility
now used by students and staff.
Riverland Community College (Austin and Albert Lea): $1.0 million
Realign programs at three formerly separate campuses to accommodate clustered
programs; provide electronic access and facilities for business and industry
conference activities.
Northwest Technical College (Bemidji) Advanced Manufacturing
Center: $1.0 million
Renovate space at Bemidji High School for shared use by Bemidji State
University, Northwest Technical College and area business.
Minneapolis Community and Technical College learning resource
center: $0.5 million
Design new space for a library, media center and technology center; unifying
the college.
Metro State University library, $1.0 million
Plan a joint university/community library that will serve St. Paul's East
Side, where no public library exists; in a partnership with U of M and
St. Paul public library system.
Century College campus improvements: $0.8 million
Plan a pedestrian bridge to connect the campuses and remodeling to accommodate
consolidation.
Minnesota West and Northwest Technical College (10 campuses in
northwestern and southwestern Minnesota) master site plans: $0.4 million
Complete master plans for two institutions with five campuses each to
serve major parts of rural Minnesota.
Winona State University renovation of old library: $0.5 million
Develop plan to convert former library into offices and classrooms.
Southwest State University (Marshall) library remodeling: $0.8
million
Design remodeling of regional university library to handle modern library
technology and serve as a regional resource for educators, public agencies
and businesses.
St. Cloud Technical College remodeling to improve programs and
efficiency: $1.0 million
Remodel building constructed in 1965 to increase efficiencies and expand
its capacity to serve students by 30 percent.
Laurentian District (Virginia): $0.5 million
Plan new construction to include library, learning center space and distance
learning classrooms.
Rochester interior road system: $1.0 million
Build roadway to connect two merged colleges on opposite ends of University
of Rochester property.
SYSTEM-WIDE INVESTMENTS
System-wide building and facility repair and maintenance: $48.3
million
Complete fire and life safety improvements, roof replacement and repair,
asbestos removal, ADA compliance, exterior maintenance.
Metro area plan: $15 million
Fund a portion of $139 million in requests from metro-area institutions
that have been held in abeyance pending completion of the Metro Area Study
by Dr. Hazel Reinhardt. (List of specific projects to be submitted by
Feb. 1.)
System-wide minor expansion and remodeling projects: $5.0 million
Complete minor remodeling and construction of up to 2,000 square feet
of new space to accommodate program changes.
System-wide land bank program: $3.0 million
Provide for purchase of land adjacent to or near MnSCU campuses as needs
arise and properties come on the market.
System-wide master and facility plan updates: $1.0 million
Prepare master facility plans for a number of MnSCU institutions that
do not have plans, or have plans that are outdated because of the merger.
