New names for three pairs of consolidating community colleges and technical colleges were approved today by the Board of Trustees of Minnesota State Colleges and Universities.

The colleges are scheduled to consolidate on July 1, 1996, bringing to seven the number of neighboring community colleges and technical colleges that have combined since July 1, 1995.

Hibbing Community College, A Technical and Community College was approved as the name for the consolidation of Hibbing Community College and Range Technical College.

Ridgewater College, A Community and Technical College is the name approved for the consolidation of Willmar Community College and Hutchinson-Willmar Regional Technical College. The name "Ridgewater" refers to the rivers and lakes near the colleges and to the glacial ridge in the region.

All three names were recommended by the colleges after advice was sought from students, faculty, staff and the college communities.
