Responsibilities:
Assist Bemidji State University’s Director of Athletic Media Relations in all facets of operations and management of the Athletic Media Relations Office and the publicity of Bemidji State’s 15 intercollegiate athletic programs, including but not limited to:

  • Manage media relations for football, men’s and women’s basketball, baseball and other sports as assigned.

The BSU Department of Intercollegiate Athletics includes 15 sports -- 5 for men and 10 for women. BSU competes at the NCAA Division I level in men’s and women’s ice hockey and at the NCAA Division II level in its other 13 sports. Conference affiliations include: Western Collegiate Hockey Association (women’s and men’s ice hockey) and the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (Division II sports).

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required. Preferred degree in journalism, communications, sports marketing, public relations or related field.
  • One year of experience working within sports information, intercollegiate athletics, public relations or electronic or in a print media setting.
  • Strong written and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Understanding of operations in a collegiate athletics department.
  • Strong computer skills in desktop publishing, graphic design, video editing, statistical software and website maintenance.
  • Understanding of new media.
  • Understanding of standards and practices in media relations.
  • Familiarity with NCAA legislation regarding publicity activities.
  • Physically able to carry equipment and manage steps into athletics facilities and press boxes.

Preferred Qualifications:

Responsibilities:

The International Recruiter is responsible to directly communicate with and recruit international students to BSU and to plan, establish, track recruiting efforts and maintain relationships with Education USA Centers, community colleges, and other similar institutions. In addition, this position also will support application processing, programming and advising to retain international students along with developing international alumni relationships with the University.

  • Limited domestic travel to recruit international students and to do some international travel;
  • Organize and participate in evening and weekend recruitment and retention events;
  • Occasional overnight travel;
  • May need to lift and transport some recruitment programming, and/or cooking materials;
  • Maintain regular communication with prospective students, applicants and admitted students. Assist with application processing and management;

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Intercultural Communications, International Relations or related discipline with an international dimension (3 or more years of direct international student admission and recruitment can substitute for required bachelor's degree);
  • Minimum one (1) year working directly with international students;
  • Valid driver's license;
  • Evidence of excellent cross-cultural communication skills (written and oral);

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Doctorate in higher education administration, student development, or related area.
    • Hobson’s Radius.
    • Experience with co-curriculum assessment.
    • Experience in a collective bargaining environment.
    • Comprehensive understanding of the critical emerging issues facing higher education and current best practices in the full range of enrollment management and student affairs.
