Minnesota State Colleges and Universities invites applications and nominations for President of the Northeast Higher Education District.

The Northeast Higher Education District seeks a visionary leader to work with faculty, staff, students, and the community of the district’s five colleges to advance higher education in Minnesota’s northeastern region through collaboration, accountability, and innovation.

The Northeast Higher Education District (NHED) is a consortium of five community and technical colleges in northeastern Minnesota led by a single president. The consortium was launched in 1999 by Minnesota State Colleges and Universities (MnSCU) to provide unified leadership, promote academic cooperation, and maximize educational resources in the region. The five participating colleges are:

  • Hibbing Community College, Hibbing
  • Itasca Community College, Grand Rapids
  • Mesabi Range College, Eveleth and Virginia
  • Rainy River Community College, International Falls
  • Vermilion Community College, Ely

Each college is led by a provost and retains its unique identity and accreditation. Working together, the colleges serve more than 7,000 students in credit courses annually and provide a variety of educational programs and delivery options.

The president helps the five colleges meet the region’s needs. The colleges have shared services, including human resources; institutional research; grant writing; financial oversight; and management of a federal TRIO Student Support Services grant.

NHED’s offices are located in Virginia, Minnesota, in the heart of the Arrowhead region and the Iron Range. This spectacular landscape is home to the headwaters of the Mississippi, Voyagers National Park, the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness, the Chippewa National Forest, and the Superior National Forest. Towering forests, pristine waterways, and rugged terrain make this region a national destination for outdoor activities in both summer and winter.
