This career major prepares people to work as a certified occupational therapy assistant with individuals who have physical disabilities, emotional illness, developmental disabilities, or problems associated with aging. Those working in this field would be expected to work with the supervision of a registered occupational therapist to assess individual's needs, determine appropriate outcomes, plan and carry out purposeful activities, demonstrate appropriate communication skills, document the individual's participation in O.T., and maintain the O.T. services environment. Completion of this educational program also allows the graduate to function as a director of an activity program, assisted living facility, and nursing rehab department, without the supervision of the registered occupational therapist.
