This master's degree program is a joint program of the Economics and Political Science Departments of St. Cloud State University designed to enhance the analytical skills of those currently employed or considering careers in the public and nonprofit sectors of the economy. Students will receive training in the application of economic theory to issues confronting public and non-profit institutions. This will include issues such as the reasons for these types of institutions and their place in society, ascertaining the demand for their services, fund raising, achieving objectives at the least cost (given the institutions objective), and performance evaluation. Courses in political science and public administration will prepare students for dealing with diverse agendas of different groups, surveying public opinion, and solving managerial problems that are particular to not-for-profit institutions. The program exhibits important strengths in economic analysis and public policy and administration, and in rigorous problem-solving and policy analytical skills.
