This program provides an opportunity to become an educated health care provider who delivers physical therapy services under the supervision of a physical therapist. The physical therapist assistant (PTA) uses manual techniques and specialized equipment in the treatment of patients with a variety of neurological and musculoskeletal conditions. The PTA also observes and assesses the patient's condition and response to treatment, teaches exercises and activities of daily living, and documents treatment. Physical therapy practitioners minimize physical disability, movement dysfunction, and pain. PTAs may find opportunity to work in a variety of settings. Fifteen weeks of off-campus clinical affiliations are required. Background study required by Minnesota law.
