This program prepares students as health care specialists who work with a variety of patients suffering from cardiopulmonary disorders. Working under the direction of a physician, respiratory care practitioners assist in the evaluation, treatment, management, rehabilitation, and prevention of these disorders. Patients treated by respiratory care practitioners range from premature infants to the elderly. Practitioners enjoy tremendous opportunity for diversity in their practices. Working in diagnostic labs, hospitals, clinics, home care, and industry, respiratory care practitioners fill a vital role in our nation's health care system. Graduates of the full two-year program will be eligible to take the National Board of Respiratory Care's (N.B.R.C.) advanced standing exam. Individuals who pass the exam are awarded the credentials of a Registered Respiratory Therapist (R.R.T.). Students will be required to attend clinical during day and evening shifts, throughout the program. Some clinical may involve travel. Background study required by Minnesota law.
