The Accounting AAS Degree at SCTCC offers students a diverse in-depth accounting and business curriculum. The program prepares students to be successful in a variety of accounting careers and for advancement in their current positions. Graduates will learn to be critical thinkers and decision makers who have been taught the most up-to-date accounting practices. Ethics is interwoven into every class. Graduates will know how to use the most current computer software. When students leave SCTCC, not only will they have a strong background in accounting practice and theory, they will also have hands-on experience creating and maintaining financial and managerial accounting systems, preparing financial statements, preparing and filing tax returns, auditing/reconciling financial information, using cash management practices, and preparing financial statements for governmental entities and non-profit organizations. They will also have practical experience using Quickbooks software, used by 90% of the small businesses in the region, and be prepared to become Quickbooks certified.
Students completing the Accounting AAS Degree are eligible to take the national Accredited Business Accountant accreditation and the State of Minnesota Registered Accounting Practitioner accreditation exams. In past years, SCTCC graduates have a pass rate three times higher than the national average on the national accreditation exam.
