Thomas Renier is the founding President of the Northland Foundation since its inception in 1986.  Prior to joining the Foundation, he was with the Arrowhead Regional Development Commission for 11 years, working primarily in economic and community development.  In 1985, he was the founding President of the Northspan Group, a non-profit economic and business development organization, which still serves the seven-county region of Northeast Minnesota.

• Board of Directors, Area Partnerships for Economic Expansion (APEX)
• Board of Advisors for the School of Business and Economics of the University of Minnesota – Duluth

Renier is a graduate of the University of Minnesota Duluth, and a lifelong resident of Duluth. He has served the Northeast Region throughout his entire 33-year career. 

Renier is appointed to the board seat for a resident of the Eighth Congressional District. Gov. Tim Pawlenty appointed Renier to a six-year term ending June 30, 2010.
