Michael Boulton earned a bachelor's degree in political science and business administration from Southwest Minnesota State University in May 2005. Boulton earned a master's degree in urban and regional studies at Minnesota State University, Mankato in May 2007.
Since January 2007, Boulton has served as City Administrator for the cities of Nicollet, Courtland, and Lafayette.
Boulton served on the board of directors for the Minnesota State University Student Association in 2004-2005. He served as president (2004-2005) and senator (2002-2004) for the SMSU Student Association. Boulton also served as president of the SMSU Political Science Association, a team member of Students in Free Enterprise from 2002-2005, and was a member of the pep band.
From 2002 to 2006, Boulton worked part-time and summers for the city of Marshall engineering department. He also served an internship with the Lincoln County Environmental Office in the summer 2004. Boulton was born and raised on a farm in rural Lincoln County, and is a 2000 graduate of Canby High School, Canby, Minn. Boulton has been a member of the Canby Knights baseball town team since 2001.
Gov. Tim Pawlenty appointed Boulton to the board seat for a state university student in July 2005 for a two-year term ending June 30, 2007, but he continues to serve until his replacement is appointed.
