Extension of Chancellor's Contract, Search for Successor
The Board of Trustees authorized a committee to negotiate the terms and conditions of a six-month extension (through mid-2001) to Chancellor Anderson's contract, and announced plans to begin a search for his successor.

 

Election of Officers
The Board of Trustees elected the following officers: Michael M. Vekich, chair; Robert Erickson, vice chair; Nancy Brataas, secretary; and Robert J. McFarlin, secretary.

Appointment of Provost, Minnesota State University, Akita
The Board of Trustees approved the appointment of Dr. Richard Nilson as Provost of Minnesota State University, Akita effective September 22, 1999, under the terms and conditions of the Personnel Plan for MnSCU Administrators.

Two-year Student Housing Guidelines
The Board of Trustees approved the guidelines for student housing at two-year colleges.

Fergus Falls Community College Land Exchange
The Board of Trustees approved entering into a lease agreement between the Fergus Falls Housing and Redevelopment Authority and Fergus Falls Community College for FFCC to lease College Manor and Williams Hillside Village for a renewable term of three years, with the option by either party to cancel after two years.

Gift to Bemidji State University
The Board of Trustees approved the gift of $193,266 from the Bemidji State University Foundation.

Program Approval: Certificate, Pipefitting Building Trade Installation Apprenticeship; Certificate, Pipefitting Service Apprenticeship; and Certificate, Advanced Pipefitting Apprenticeship, St. Paul Technical College
The Board of Trustees approved the request by St. Paul Technical College to offer three new certificates in Pipefitting Building Trade Installation Apprenticeship, Pipefitting Service Apprenticeship, and Advanced Pipefitting Apprenticeship. Program implementation is effective September 22, 1999.

Program Approval: Certificate, Low Voltage Systems Installer Apprenticeship, St. Paul Technical College
The Board of Trustees approved the request by St. Paul Technical College to offer a certificate in Low Voltage Systems Installer Apprenticeship. Program implementation is effective September 22, 1999.

Program Approval: AAS, Speech Language Pathology Assisting, South Central College, Mankato
The Board of Trustees approved the request by South Central College to offer an Association in Applied Science in Speech Language Pathology Assisting at the Mankato campus. Program implementation is August 1, 2000.

Program Approval: MS, Software Technology, Winona State University
The Board of Trustees approved the request by Winona State University to offer an MS degree program in Software Technology. Program implementation is scheduled for Fall 2000.

Program Closures: BS, Office Systems Management, and MS, Business Education, Minnesota State University, Mankato
The Board of Trustees approved the request by Minnesota State University, Mankato, to close the following programs: BS, Office System Management and MS, Business Education, effective September 22, 1999.

Twin Cities Metropolitan Area Planning
The Board of Trustees approved the report on Twin Cities Metropolitan Planning.

Northeast Higher Education District
The Board of Trustees approved the creation of the Northeast Higher Education District, effective October 1, 1999. Itasca Community College (Grand Rapids), Mesabi-Range Community and Technical College (Virginia and Eveleth), and Vermilion Community College (Ely), will join the district on the effective date. Rainy River Community College will become a part of the district structure in academic year 2001-2002. Hibbing Community College, a community and technical college, will join the district at such time as there is a change in presidential leadership at the institution. As identified in the Plan for the Northeast Higher Education District, a progress report to the Board will be provided in July, 2000.

Office of the Legislative Auditor Financial Audits of Bemidji State University, Laurentian Community and Technical College District, Minnesota State University, Mankato, Southwest State University, Minnesota West Community and Technical College, and MnSCU System Office
The Board of Trustees accepted the Office of the Legislative Auditor financial audits of Bemidji State University, Laurentian Community and Technical College District, Minnesota State University, Mankato, Southwest State University, Minnesota West Community and Technical College, and MnSCU System Office.
