Appointment of President, Minneapolis Community and Technical College
The Board of Trustees approved Chancellor Anderson's recommendation and appointed Phillip Davis as president of Minneapolis Community and Technical College, effective July 22, 1998.

 

Appointment of President, Minnesota West Community and Technical College
The Board of Trustees approved Chancellor Anderson's recommendation and appointed Dr. Ronald A. Wood as president of Minnesota West Community and Technical College, effective July 22, 1998.

Proposed Amendment to Policy 1A.5, Naming Consolidated Two Year Colleges
The Board reviewed the amendment to MnSCU Policy 1A.5 as a first reading and will take action on it at the September Board meeting.

Proposed Amendment to MnSCU Policy 8.1, Gifts and Grants
The Board of Trustees approved the amendment to MnSCU Policy 8.1, Gifts and Grants, effective July 22, 1998.

Acceptance of Gift of Land to Northwest Technical College
The Board of Trustees approved the acceptance of a lot located on Lot 2, Block 1, Saint Onge Chippewa Heights #4 in Bemidji donated by Doug St. Onge at a value of $12,600.

Fiscal Policy Committee Delegation Principles
The Board of Trustees approved the Fiscal Policy Committee delegation principles outlined in pages 72 and 73 of the July meeting materials.

New Program Approvals:
The Board of Trustees approved the following new programs:

  1. Advanced Technical Certificate, Advanced Farm Business Management. Program offered at the following colleges: Alexandria Technical College, Central Lakes College, Minnesota West, Northland Community and Technical College, Ridgewater College, Riverland Community College, St. Cloud Technical College, and South Central College.
  2. AAS, Wireless Communications and Networking Specialist; Diploma, Wireless Communications Technician, Alexandria Technical College.
  3. Advanced Technical Certificate, Automotive Diagnostics, Northwest Technical College, Detroit Lakes.
  4. Advanced Technical Certificate, Advanced Respiratory Care Practitioner, Northwest Technical College, East Grand Forks.
  5. Diploma, Paramedic, Hibbing Community College.
  6. BS, Food Science Technology, Mankato State University.
  7. MS, Technical Communication, Metropolitan State University.
  8. BA, Screenwriting, Metropolitan State University.
  9. BS, Justice Administration, Southwest State University.
  10. BA, Rural Public Administration, Southwest State University.

Academic Program Closures
The Board of Trustees approved the following academic program closures:

  1. Laurentian Community and Technical College District: AAS, Natural Resource Technology, Cloquet Campus; AAS, Optical Management, Eveleth; Diploma, Optical Technology, Eveleth; Diploma, Occupational Skills, Eveleth
  2. Minneapolis Community and Technical College: Certificate, Commercial Aviation Specialist;
    Diploma, Small Business Management; Diploma, Graphic Arts/Printing
  3. St. Paul Technical College: Certificate, Emergency Medical Services; Diploma, Apparel Arts; Diploma, Natural Gas Utilization and Distribution; Diploma, Recreational Vehicle Service Technician; Diploma, Small Business Management.

New September Board Meeting Date
Because the election primaries will be on September 15, the Annual Meeting of the Board of Trustees has been changed to Thursday and Friday, September 17-18, 1998. The first allocation model hearing will be on September 17, 1998, in St. Paul. The remaining three hearings will be on September 22 at Alexandria Technical College, September 29 at Mankato State University, and October 6 at Itasca Community College.
