Approval of September 5, 1996, Executive Committee Meeting Minutes
Trustee Fritsche moved adoption of the September 5, 1996, Executive Committee meeting minutes as presented. Trustee Ulland seconded. The motion passed unanimously.

1. Review of October 16, 1996 Board and Committee Meeting Agendas
   The Executive Committee reviewed the draft agendas for the October 16, 1996 Board and Committee meetings.
   
   
2. Southwest State University Presidential Search
   A number of MnSCU presidents are currently serving in interim positions. They are: Doug Sweetland, Southwest State University; Jim Johnson, Red Wing/Winona Technical College; Cliff Korkowski, Anoka-Hennepin Technical College; Karen Nagle, Rochester Community and Technical College; and Yvette Jackson, North Hennepin Community College. Harold Erickson, Lake Superior College, has recently announced his retirement effective in the spring of 1997. Chancellor Eaton reported that searches for the permanent positions would begin within the next few months.
   
   
3. Vice Chancellor for Labor Relations Search Update
   Chancellor Eaton reported that she and Dr. Kerschner have reviewed resumes submitted by the search consultant. She and Dr. Kerschner plan to invite 3-4 candidates to discuss the position with various constituents.
   
   
4. Vice Chancellor for Policy and Planning Search Update
   Additional resumes are currently being reviewed.
   
   
5. Update on MnSCU Town Meeting (Strategic Planning)
   Nine town meetings have been conducted around the state. Chancellor Eaton has met with the system office staff as well. A meeting is also planned with the three faculty associations and their executive boards.
   
   
6. Dinner with University of Minnesota Board of Regents
   A meeting and dinner is planned for October 15, 1996 with President Nils Hasselmo and the University of Minnesota Board of Regents. A decision was made to discuss the tentative vision statement and strategic themes at the meeting.
   
   
7. Dates for Special Board Meetings
   Trustees were asked to hold the following dates for meetings:
   

   November 6, 1996 - The draft budget document will be distributed at the 11 a.m. Executive Committee meeting to all trustees present (and mailed to those not in attendance).
   
   November 20, 1996 - A Special Meeting will be convened in the late afternoon/early evening to receive public comment on the draft budget document.
   

   December 4, 1996 - A Special Meeting will be convened to take action on the budget document

8. Adjournment
   Trustee Fritsche moved adjournment of the Executive Committee at 3:34 p.m. Trustee Stephens seconded. The motion was adopted unanimously.
