MnSCU PUBLIC HEARING ON THE METRO PLAN
February 4-5, 1998

Trustees Absent: Kathleen Caffey, Daniel G. Coborn, Dennis Dotson, Gary Mohrenweiser, Michael Nesdahl, Charles W. Williams

  1. Call to Order
    Chair Vekich called the meeting to order at 2:10 p.m., and announced that a quorum was not present at this time. At least two more Trustees were expected to attend the hearing. There were no action items as the purpose of the meeting was to hear public comment on the Metro Plan.
  2. Overview of Preliminary Metro Plan
    Chair Vekich thanked everyone for attending the public hearing. He provided a brief summary of the Metro Plan, including the legislative background, the role of the consultant, Dr. Hazel Reinhardt, the consultative process, and the next steps in the planning process.

    Chair Vekich provided the ground rules for the hearing and asked people who wished to comment to register with the recorder, to limit their remarks to five minutes, and bring any handouts to the recorder who will distribute them to the Board.

  3. Public Comments
    The majority of the public comments were in favor of continuing to expand Metropolitan State University as a comprehensive urban university. The following people addressed the Board of Trustees:

    Chair Vekich thanked all the speakers and audience members for attending the hearing. He urged those who, because of time constraints, did not have an opportunity to speak today, to attend the hearing at Minneapolis Community and Technical College the following day, or to send their comments to the Chancellor or the Board of Trustees. Chair Vekich thanked President Cole and her staff for hosting the meeting location.

    Chair Vekich adjourned the meeting at 5:40 p.m.
