Responsibilities:
The Check & Connect (C&C) Coach works as a team member with the Check & Connect grant personnel, the Occupational Skills Program (OSP) staff, counselors, advisors, disability services staff, faculty, family members, and the student. The coach’s role consists of :

  1.  Working with students and families and/or support systems as appropriate;
  2.  Regularly checking on students’ academic and social adjustment and behavioral and educational progress;
  3.  Intervening in a timely manner to reestablish and maintain students’ connection to school and learning and to enhance students’ academic and social competencies.
     

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Four-year degree in related field.
  • Minimum of one year related work experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Competent knowledge and prior experience of job coaching skills and various disabilities areas (physical, mental, and health impairments, ID) and a desire to work with students with disabilities.
  • Knowledge of counseling techniques and/or experience counseling student with disabilities with education, work, and interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of working with faculty to provide support and make reasonable accommodations in certificates and program of study for students with disabilities. Above average visual, writing, and mechanical skills are needed.
  • Ability to develop and maintain rapport and above average interpersonal and human relation skills. 
  • Ability to work with a varied schedule (including evenings and weekends, and summer) based on student’s need.
  • Possess a valid commercial driver’s license.

  • A thorough working knowledge of mathematics from elementary arithmetic through multi-variable calculus, plus an understanding of Linear Algebra and different equations.
